Woolf’s-head Publishing
Exhibit Catalogue
Bruce Peel Special Collections Library, University of Alberta
This exhibition catalogue documents a number of works from Virginia and Leonard Woolf’s Hogarth Press. As they had a very hands-on and crafty approach to producing their books, it was a goal of this project to create a piece that would emanate a similar artistry, one that is spontaneous and sometimes less-than-perfect. The choice of a middle-grade paper also helped to achieve a sense of roughness rather than polish.
A selection of beautifully printed papers from the Press became the basis of the cover design and were used to tie together the various sections of the book by providing backgrounds, details, and framing devices.
As the purpose of the catalogue is to feature the books on display, it was important to show the entries as large as possible and to keep the descriptions clean and clear.
