Colored Hockey Championship
This stamp issue pays tribute to the all-black ice hockey teams that played in the Maritimes from 1895 to the early 1930s. The design includes a list team names, some of which had double meanings significant to the Black community, because of their ties to the Underground Railway or their religious foundations. Details of the illustrations were scrutinized to ensure their accuracy, from the faces, uniforms, skate blades, sticks, and silverware to the park setting at Egg Pond in Halifax.
